During the developing stage of this custom home project and as the floor plan was being birthed, it was crucial to establish a design scheme direction. Knowing what the family desires were for their new home helped facilitate proactive decision-making and avoid the need for reactive adjustments during the design process. While also streamlining the process and helping to prevent any potential regrets, it was important to consider both the current needs and the family’s future needs when designing their home. Building a forever home is all about creating a space that you can live in comfortably for the rest of your life. Life is full of twists and turns and your long-term goals of living and aging in your home may not always go according to your plans. This meant thinking about factors such as family size, hobbies, lifestyle, and functionality which are key when it comes to designing a forever home that will allow you to age in place. Accessibility considerations were necessary in the planning and design of this home, and thinking about how you would navigate a space as you age and any potential mobility issues that may arise were at the forefront. With a person with disabilities being an important entity of this process, it was very important to consider his needs. One important consideration was an open floor plan which provides easy access and movement throughout the home. This design allows for a seamless transition between rooms, making it easier to navigate throughout the spaces as the rest of the family also ages. Keep in mind that trends come and go, but some designs are timeless, the hopes are that this family will enjoy this home, as much as I have enjoyed designing it and it meets their wants and need
